The Crimson Empire
Eladrin Cleric of the Raven Queen
Arianna. Some people call me Ari. Or at least, they use to. But now those people are all rotting corpses.
It was the spring of my 22 year on the plain of Arborea and the flora and fauna positively flourished. I lived in a small elk tree along with my sister Lily, brother Roderick, Mother Evangeline and father Tide. Life was happy, life was simple, life was Corellon. Every day I could be found at the Grand Ipp Tree of Corellon. Carved around the side of the tree were stairs leading into Temple Hall. This massive structure was made entirely of imported alabaster stone and glass window panes. It was supported by the many many intertwining upper branches of our northern forest. I studied hard every day and every night. I devoted all of my spare time to Corellon. My god of spring, my god of beauty, art, magic and the fey. But such behavior was not unusual in any way, considering I had; at my ‘arrival’ I had chosen to become a cleric of Corellon. (At your arrival, you choose what you’re going to do with your life. If you want a family, you choose provider, if you want to kill, you choose assassin, and so on.)
My sister and I were as close as two eladrin sisters could ever be. She and I did everything we could together. It always upset her to see me go off to cleric training at temple knowing she couldn’t go along. So she made up her mind to follow in my path and devote her life to Corellon. She chose to become a paladin. With permission from my teacher, lily was allowed to come with me to training. For months we talked and trained. Finally she announced that she was defiantly devoting her life to temple and Corellon. In celebration, teacher decided we should hold her arrival at Temple Hall. What an honor!
The day of Lily’s arrival was a day to remember forever. We were all in Temple hall, the entire village. Lily was making her vows and performing the traditional rituals when suddenly all went black as night. Panic filled the air, as several citizens cracked sun-rods or preformed various light-producing spells. In less than a minute, many people fell dead. Out of the rafters, threw the windows and up from the floor, dozens of vampires stormed our temple. Everyone was running away, I was running for lily. I found her lying on the floor behind the main podium, so I climbed in and pulled her inside with me. Threw the knotholes of the podium I watched as my entire village was slaughtered by the undead. I prayed to Corellon for aid. To strike his sun inside of the temple. To save my village, my family, my sister. But it was no use, Lilly, like everyone, was already dead. As the massacre occurred I observed a very odd thing. Some of the vampires weren’t killing, they were searching. My initial assumption was that they were looking for me, but then one of the searchers rushed over to a rather regal looking vampire “my lord is this what the great Orcus searches for?” The regal vampire snatched from the others hand, a scroll. A simple bit of rolled up parchment. But by the look on the regal vampires face, I knew that it must be something more than just some paper. Once he had that scroll, he ordered all of his subordinates to stop their feeding and follow him.
I waited in that cubby holding my dead sisters body for hours. How long exactly, I’m not sure. But I was too shocked to move. I slowly walked up and down the rows of pews, searching for any signs of life. I found nothing. The next 2 weeks I dedicated to burying my village and packing. I said my prayers over every grave, but on the last, lily’s, I swore revenge. I promised her I would find the creatures that killed our village. I would let the experience the final death. They would know my pain.
I set out with no particular destination and threw very good fortune, I happened a cross the ** monastery of the raven queen. They brought me in, fed me, gave me a room and listened to my tale. Teacher told me she could help. Now I am a cleric of The Raven Queen, on a bloodthirsty mission for vengeance. And all I have to say is “Orcus, anticipate your doom.”
